FROM JEANNE'S ANCESTRY

My grandma Mabel Harris Fraedrich was one of seven children - five boys and two girls.  She was fourth oldest, born 12 November 1893.  Her only other sister was Irene Harris Waller who was born 25 July 1898.  I believe she and her husband lived in Canada but, from photos, it looks like Irene came to Tucson to visit.  Below is a photo from one such visit.  I love how she is posing with a citrus tree (grapefruit?) since one would never see such a tree up north.
Here are two photos when Irene was younger.  She and her husband, Cecil, never had children so it is not surprise she would be photographed with a beloved family pet.
This is the earliest photo of Irene.  I love the outfit!

FROM STEVE AND JEANNE'S LIFE

the classic Cougar Band photo.....

Some journal entries from the month
just before our marriage on the 31st of January, 1975:

January 5, 1975  Sunday

School starts tomorrow and I am not prepared.  It'll be good to start a new leaf but I am so disoriented because I've moved into a new apartment until I get married.  It iwll be the home of Roberta Bowman and Craig Jensen who are getting married on the same day as Steve and me.  Until then, Roberta and I are living here and boy, it is a "winner".  No wonder it is only $65.00 a month.
(this apartment was in the basement of one of the old brick houses just south of campus - probably built in the 1920's or 30's.  I remember the bathroom had been painted completely in a medium blue color - it was just ghastly.  I slept in the living room on a sofa bed.)

January 7, 1975  Tuesday

Twenty-four more days until I get married.  I can't believe it!  I have been having some struggles with myself today.  Questions like "Do I really love him?! go through my mind. I still feel the marriage is right.  I'm just afraid of not being happy.  So, I've decided to do something especially nice to express my love for Steve everyday so that my love for him will increase.

January 18, 1975  Saturday

What a neat day!  We found a place in Springville - $95.00 includes utilities and furniture.  It is really neat and cute and there is lots of storage space.  I love it!  I also had a surprise shower.  Sharon, Valita, Susan, Debbie, Brenda, and Becky gave it in their apt.  Almost everyone from 4th floor (the dorm my freshman year) was there.  It was so neat.  I got all kinds of spices (I still think I have a few of those spices!!!!!) and canned goods - a start on our years supply.  It was really a surprise.  I got an inch trimmed off my hair.  Cougar Band went to SLC for the U of U vs. BYU basketball game.  We lost.  Boo.

January 30, 1975  Thursday

Mom and Dad and Juli came today.  We're all staying at the apartment tonight.  Mom is a great help.  She helps me organize stuff, etc.  Today I didn't even want to go to classes BUT, I did.  I took a test at 8:00 am and got an A.  The rest of the day I did errands with Steve and went to Oratorio (choir), work, and Cougar Band.  Everyone was so neat and excited for us.  Mom and Dad met Steve's folks and we ate dinner over there.  It was really nice and fun.  Well, tomorrow is THE DAY!!!  I can't believe it is actually happening to me.  I am excited and yet, just a little scared.  But, I know it will work out.  So, just have faith and keep the commandments.

Below are photos of our apartment in Springville:

Here is our front door - it faced east.  I think the TV on rollers was part of the furnishings??

A view of our living room.  Just to the left of this photo was a couch.  Already, we had a decent collection of books!

Our kitchen.  It was just to the north of the living room so the window also faced east.  I think that clock might have been a wedding gift???  Oh, check out the goblets at the sink.  The one remaining is the "birthday cup" today.

Our bedroom.  The window faced west.  I had forgotten how many plants I had even back then. Oh, and do you recognize the crazy quilt my grandma made me at the foot of the bed?

Look at our crazy toilet seat.  The poster was one I bought for my dorm room.  Can you tell the Peanuts poster in the foreground?
