January 27th, 2018

I had wanted to share some of my more recent poetry with my family for Christmas last month.  Since that didn't happen, I am putting a few short ones here...please feel free to offer suggestions and edits, I feel my poetry is always a work in progress.

Future writings will include memories from my boyhood and adolescence, and memories from our family's growth and development...so stay tuned!

Equally Yoked

If I would break the iron yoke of  oppression,
be free of fetters forged by fear of derision;
there is a path more gentle than worldly obsession:
sharing the Savior's yoke, one of trust and submission.

Comparisons

In time, as the veil is lifted
will some adjectives lose meaning
their relevance fading?
"Handsome", "homely", "pretty", "plain"
"fat" "thin" "short" "tall"
and the need to append
the ubiquitous -er.

When we see with the heart,
will they be replaced
by the eternal?
Thoughtful, prayerful, mindful, brave
dependable, just, loving, faithful,
loyal, kind...
no appendage needed.

Temple Work?

An overflowing gathering,
hearts within rejoice,
as on this day so many
make a consecrated choice.

They meekly tread on sacred ground
the dwelling of our Lord,
and join with fellow-servants there,
hearts knit in one accord.

"How great will be your joy", we read,
if just one soul we save;
yet shall this promise be confined
to one side of the grave?

So, shall we call it labor
where all travail doth cease?
As within these walls we may
partake of perfect peace.

See ya next time!
